Chris Adler Launches New Project, Firstborne
Firstborne is one of those fun projects where I, the hypeman, need only share the band’s line-up to pique your interest:
- Chris Adler (ex-Lamb of God, Megadeth’s Dystopia) – drums
- James LoMenzo (ex-Megadeth, ex-Black Label Society, ex-White Lion, etc.) – bass
- Myrone (fucking MYRONE, bruh!) – guitar
- Girish Pradhan (Girish and the Chronicles) – vocals
“Whoa!” say you, the valued MetalSucks reader. “That is an awesome line-up. So how long do I have to wait to hear some music from these guys?”
Well, great news, friend: you need only wait as long as it takes you to scroll down and hit “play.” The band has already released a five-song EP. (That this has happened the same day Adler’s old band released their first album without him is surely just a droll coincidence.)
I’m only getting to hear to it for the first time right now, but my initial impression is, Firstborne delivers on their lineage. There’s a lotta different flavors on this bad boy — NWOBHM, NWOAHM, speed metal, power metal, glam — sometimes married in unexpected ways. Adler made a big point of saying that he felt Lamb of God had become creatively redundant, and his desire to stretch his legs a bit is on full display here.
It goes without saying that Adler, LoMenzo, and Myrone sound top-notch, and Pradhan… man, this dude continues to be my favorite up-and-coming metal singer of 2020. If you haven’t checked out his other band’s new release, Rock the Highway, you’re missing out. What a year this dude is having!
Below you can check out lyric videos for Firstborne’s songs “Primordial” and “The Anthem,” and you can stream their entire EP, which is also called Firstborne. Or you can just buy the EP here.
