Korn’s Jonathan Davis Posts Country Version of Solo Track

Guys and gals, I’m gonna level with ya: I spent this entire past summer listening to nothing but pop country radio, and I’m not at all sorry if that bums you out. From “One Margarita” to “One Night Standards” to “Chasin’ You” to “Beer Can’t Fix” I am 100% up on today’s hottest country jams! You knock it, I know, but the level of songwriting in the genre is just otherworldly; you think you could do it, that anyone could, but you are completely wrong. Wizard-level shit.

So: Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has posted a country version of “What it Is,” a song from his 2018 solo album, Black Labyrinth. Musically, it’s fine… I dig the arrangement quite a bit, whatwith the slide guitar, Hammond, laid-back drum vibe and such. I find his voice a bit jarring in this format, but I guess it is what it is, to quote the song — Jonathan Davis can’t sound like anyone but Jonathan Davis, for better or worse.

Give it a spin below. Davis recently opened up about his meth habit in Korn’s early days, which you can read about here.
