In 2012, Van Halen embarked upon a world tour to promote their new album, A Different Kind of Truth, their first with David Lee Roth since 1984 (they had previously reunited with him for a tour in 2007, which was also the first time Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, stepped in on bass). Appropriately, the setlist mixed the band’s classic DLR-era material with songs from the new album.
The A Different Kind of Truth Tour would run through the middle of 2012 before scheduled third and fourth legs were canceled due to the band feeling overworked and Eddie’s emergency surgery for diverticulitis, although the band would play a small handful of shows in 2013. Their North American tour in 2015 would be their final run ever.
