Three-Quarters of Tool Post a New Song, Adam Jones Announces Signature Gibson Guitar

Tool guitarist Adam Jones has announced a signature guitar model with Gibson, and he’s done so by releasing a short animated film with a soundtrack composed by three-quarters of the band.

The Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom guitar, featuring the silver burst design he’s been seen performing with for years, is a limited-edition guitar from Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab. A limited offering of 79 of them have been precisely aged by the expert luthiers and craftspeople of the Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab — led by Tom Murphy — then signed and numbered by Adam himself. An additional 179 for 2020 feature exclusive silkscreen artwork on the back of the headstock, created by Joyce Su and Adam. The two also collaborated on the design for the custom hardshell guitar cases housing each instrument. One of these bad boys will run you a cool $5,999.

Jones was an animator by trade before Tool took off and he designs and animates many of Tool’s trademark visuals to this day, so it’s no surprise he’s gone back to the medium for the guitar announcement. Indeed, the animation style and motifs in the short film, titled The Witness, should look quite familiar to Tool fans. Even if it’s a glorified ad for a guitar, it’s an extremely pretty and pleasantly-sounding one, featuring his bandmates Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor chipping in.

Have a look at the short film, which features some very appealing shots of the new guitar alongside what is basically a new Tool song, below.
