Devin Townsend Covers “Silent Night” Christmas Classic

0

While Devin Townsend works on a new album called The Puzzle, tentatively due next year, he continues to release new pieces of music as they flow from his brain, out of his body, into the computer, and eventually to you. The latest: his own version of the Christmas classic, “Silent Night.”

There’s nothing terribly crazy about this one — it’s not balls-to-the-wall Heavy Devy, just a straight, chilled out cover — but I’ve long argued Devin doesn’t get enough credit as a vocalist, and this tune is a good example of why, showcasing his versatility.

Devin comments:

“Such a tired old song… tried to make it nice. Theres been people in my immediate family asking me to do christmas songs for years, and I just haven’t had the energy… but its a rough year, so here you go. =)

“If Youtube isn’t sufficient, I’ve put it up on Bandcamp for a dollar if you’d like. https://devintownsendofficial.bandcamp.com/track/silent-night

“Hope you guys are doing ok, hang on through the season, it can be rough on some of us I know. take care of yourself.”

The tune should get you in the spirit for Devin’s “A Very Devy Christmas” livestream special on December 23.

Devin also released a new original tune called “Precious Sardines” last week along with an entertaining music video featuring some of his best interpretive dance moves.
