Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne) Posts Soften the Glare Bass Playthrough Video

0

Within all the Mudvayne reunion fracas that seems to crop up every few months — as it did once again in late December — lies an opportunity to discover what musical projects the band members are working on now. No, I’m not talking about Hellyeah or Audiotopsy, but Soften the Glare, the heavy jazz fusion trio featuring Mudvane bassist Ryan Martinie, guitarist Bon Lozaga and drummer Mitch Hull. I sincerely hope some of you looked past your OMG MUDVAYNE REUNION excitement to check them out, because it’s A+ primo stuff.

The band’s debut album, Making Faces, came out in 2017, and Glint followed in early 2020. It’s the former from which Martinie has pulled from for his latest effort, a playthrough video of the song “Turn Around.” And the video comes via an old friend: Nick Schendzielos, who directed the effort, is best known for his bass work in Job For a Cowboy, Cephalic Carnage and Havok.

I can’t recall ever seeing a video of this nature from Martinie, who’s kept a fairly low profile over the years, so this is a real fun one even if we see him in pseudo-animated form (the style is wicked, though). The microscope is squarely on his bass playing. Check it out below and peep more Soften the Glare at Bandcamp!
