Sabaton Unveil Cover of Manowar’s “Kingdom Come”
Sabaton covering Manowar is the most fitting tribute imaginable in every conceivable way.
For starters, Manowar are obviously a huge influence on the Swedish-based war-themed power metallers; shit, Manowar are a huge influence on pretty much every power metal band to emerge in the past 25 years.
But it was also Sabaton who filled in when Manowar bailed on their Hellfest headline performance at the very last minute two years ago. Sabaton, the true heroes that they are, performed a massive headline set of their own… and then volunteered to do it again the very next day on less than 24 hours notice. What’s more, vocalist Joakim Brodén had lost his voice, so Sabaton not only had to fill in for Manowar, but for themselves: the other band members took over vocals with lyric sheets taped to their mic stands. Like I said, truly heroic!
The cover, of “Kingdom Come,” first came out in 2016 on a Metal Hammer compilation CD. But this is the first time it’s been officially available on all streaming platforms for easy mass consumption. It arrives with “Metal Trilogy,” a medley of the band’s “Metal Ripper,” “Metal Crue,” and “Metal Machine.”
Sabaton co-founder, leader and bassist Pär Sundtröm says:
“Our fans have spoken. YOU requested the release of this song everywhere, so this is for all of you. This recording was meant to be a tribute to Manowar and a collaboration with a video game bearing the same name when we recorded it a few years ago. We are happy to see that you appreciate the song so much, and we have paid attention to your wishes and requests. You asked for it, you got it.”
