Adult-Oriented Death Metal: Omnium Gatherum’s New Death Leppard Banger, “Reckoning”

0

Finnish melodic death metal legends Omnium Gatherum continue to kill it on their latest single, “Reckoning,” which arrives today with a music video.

But before we get to that, I’d like to start with the accompanying quote from guitarist Markus Vanhala because it contains some of the best and funniest lines I’ve ever heard from a musician about their new song, including: 1) the phrase “adult oriented death metal,” which as a 39-year-old fan of this stuff couldn’t be any more accurate and hits me right in the FEELS, 2) “where Def Leppard and death metal meets” because same as #1, and at least these guys are self aware, right? 3) comparing an island off the Finland coast to Miami with no trace of irony, 4) the phrase “zipping cold beer” (I’m assuming he meant sipping, but honestly zipping works too).

All in all, A++++ stuff!

Here it is:

”‘Reckoning’ is a certain powersong or an uplifting song which we needed to rise from the depths of a past year, and it was the last song we wrote for the new album. Adult oriented death metal at its finest glory, that dark and shiny place where Def Leppard and death metal meets. Death Leppard, maybe? The music video saved a warm memory from a very hot summer day in my hometown of Kotka, where we played at the rocks of the beautiful island of Rankki. Lying on the rocks zipping cold beer and driving with the boats at the sea. Kotka isn’t that far from Miami, except geographically.”

Enjoy “Reckoning” below and previous single “Paragon” here. Omnium Gatherum’s new album, Origin, comes out on November 5 via Century Media Records; pre-order here.
