Volbeat Release Surprisingly Thrashy New Song “Becoming”

I don’t know if covering Metallica had a serious impact on Volbeat or if guitarist Rob Caggiano brought in a rejected riff from his Anthrax days or what, but the band’s new single, “Becoming,” is unexpectedly much heavier and thrashier than the band’s usual output. The chorus is still classic Volbeat boogie-pop-metal, but most of the song sounds like it could have been on Hardwired, if not The Black Album.

Check out “Becoming” below. The track will appear on Volbeat’s new album, Servant of the Mind, which is out December 3 on Republic Records. You can pre-order it here.
