The Grammys Left Joey Jordison Out of Their ‘In Memoriam’ Segment

0

A big part of Grammy night as a metalhead is discovering which of your favorite musicians the Recording Academy felt were too small or grubby to be included in their ‘In Memoriam’ reel. Year after year, the Academy leaves out some of the most important fallen artists in rock history because they’re a little too sweaty, tattooed, or rebellious in the face of the industry for their liking. The awards did it to Jeff Hanneman, they did it to Vinnie Paul, they did it to Keith Flint, they did it to Riley Gale, and now, surprise surprise, the Grammys left out founding Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison.

Yup, last night’s Grammy awards included tributes to legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, and rapper DMX, but it didn’t think Jordison was worthy of a public nod. This feels egregious for a number of reasons, but especially because, as Rock Feed pointed out in their Twitter, Jordison accepted a Grammy alongside Slipknot in 2006, for their track “Before I Forget.” So as it turns out, you can even be a Grammy winner and the Grammys won’t honor you after your death unless you’re a classical jazz musician or a pop rocker.

Slipknot are currently out on their Knotfest Roadshow tour, so make sure to catch the band at one of their upcoming dates below and honor Joey’s legacy in person. Meanwhile, from all of us at MetalSucks, fuck the Grammys.
