Alestorm Join “Megellan’s Expedition” On New Single
Last month, we announced that pirate metal crew Alestorm would be dropping their new album, Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum, later this year. Now, the band have released their first new single from the record, which you can hear below.
We must disappoint some Alestorm fans, however, by saying that this is one of what you might call the Serious Alestorm Songs, if there is such a thing. You see, there are two kinds of Alestorm tracks: goofy drunk dance metal numbers where the band have oodles of stupid fun, and semi-serious pirate tracks in which the band imagine themselves as buccaneers standing at the front of a ship, pointing their swords into an oncoming gale. “Magellan’s Expedition” is the latter, featuring lyrics about, well, the expedition of Portugese explorer Ferdinand Megellan, who’s famous for his failed voyage in search of the East Indes (Animaniacs also did a song about him). It’s not a bad song by any means, it just isn’t about swilling rum in Barbados or whatever.
