Exclusive Track Premiere: Obscene (U.S.) Rip Your Entire Ribcage Out on “The Burrowing Hiss”

0

We’re stoked about the current proliferation of death metal in the modern day, and we’re extra stoked that bands like Obscene are a part of that. The Indianapolis quartet make the kind of elbow-reversing music that has always excited us about this genre. Now, with their second full-length album …from Dead Horizon to Dead Horizon, the band (formerly known as Blood Chasm) are set to conquer the underground with a mixture of catchy-as-fuck stomps and unmitigated menace that’ll have both beery old-school heads and grimy, rabid new fans frothing for more. So long as bands this cool are coming out of the scene, death metal can black out easy, knowing its banner is still being waved triumphantly.

Exclusive Track Premiere: Obscene (U.S.) Rip Your Entire Ribcage Out on “The Burrowing Hiss”

“The Burrowing Hiss,” the new single off of …from Dead Horizon to Dead Horizon, definitely shows off the extent of Obscene’s departure from the norm. Make no mistake, the song is without question classic death metal, and provides the listener with excellent material to which they can headbang themselves into a coma. But the song’s riffs are a little bit wonky, and its rhythms a bit too agitated and insistent, for the whole thing to feel typical. Obscene are working within a set of genre boundaries, but aren’t afraid to make the walls around them shake and bulge with their musicianship.
