Watch: Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi Reunite Live at Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony

0

The Prince of Darkness and his greatest collaborator, former Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, were reunited in a live setting last night when they performed at the closing of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The duo of Ozzy Osbourne and Iommi, plus final Sabbath drummer Tommy Clufetos and live Sabbath bassist Adam Wakeman, performed renditions of “Paranoid” and “Iron Man.”

According to Kerrang!, it is the first time that Osbourne has appeared on the stage since Ozzfest in 2018. As strange as it may seem that Ozzy’s first public appearance in four years was at the Commonwealth Games, it totally tracks; Iommi and saxophonist Soweto Kinch teamed up together to perform a version of her song “Hear My Voice” during the opening ceremony this year.

Ozzy is gearing up to release his 13th solo album, Patient Number 9, on September 9 and we’ve already heard him team up with Iommi once, for a totally-rockin’ masturbation anthem. Prior to that, Ozzy released the title track to Patient Number 9 via an awesome animated music video created by comic book genius Todd McFarlane.

We know that Patient Number 9 features a pretty stacked list of guests—another appearance from Iommi, a couple from former Ozzy and current Pantera guitarist Zakk Wylde, two from Jeff Beck, one from Eric Clapton and one featuring Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.

Ozzy takes the show on the road in 2023.
