Torche’s Drummer Will Perform With Seth Meyers’ House Band This Month

0

It’s no secret that most of the musicians playing on major pop shows are hired guns. It’s not uncommon to see the guitarist repping a crust punk shirt or a member of Obituary performing with Andrew W.K.

Later this month, Torche drummer Rick Smith has a similar opportunity when he sits in with the 8G Band, the house band for popular NBC television program Late Night With Seth Meyers, September 13 through 15. This isn’t the first time Torche has been involved with the show; the band first appeared on the show in 2019. The 8G band has featured metal artists in the past, including Gojira‘s Mario Duplantier last year.

Immediately following Smith’s performances with the band, Torche will kick off a run with Meshuggah, Converge and In Flames. It will be Torche’s last tour with guitarist and vocalist Steve Brooks. Earlier this year, he wrote on social media that it would be his final run with the band.

“We’re a few months away from the last tour I’m doing with Torche. We’ve been so very lucky and went far beyond what I imagined. I just don’t have it in me to keep this going living on opposite sides of the country. Much love to my band members and everyone that supported us these 18 years! See y’all this Sept/Oct.”
