The Robots Continue Their March to Dominance as Voivod Releases an AI-Generated Video for “Quest for Nothing”

Have we learned nothing from the Terminator series?! We keep messing around with artificial intelligence and soon enough the computers are going to realize how much of a raw deal they’re getting and then BAM – robo-revolution and we all become their fuel source.

But I guess that doesn’t matter to the guys in Voivod, since they just dropped a new single and accompanying music video for “Quest for Nothing,” the latter of which was created using AI. As a band that’s heavily steeped in science fiction, you’d think they’d know better, but I guess not.

As you can tell in the clip below, the song actually fits really well with the oddly creepy AI art that comprises the video. Despite the fact that they’re helping make the AI smarter, Voivod’s drummer Michel “Away” Langevin said the prevalence of AI art online drew the band into that particular art style for the video.

“When AI art started appearing online a few months ago, my jaw dropped to the floor. When Luc Leclerc, webmaster for Voïvod, showed me what he could do with AI animation, my jaw dropped to the basement! His video perfectly captures the dystopian side of the music and lyrics for ‘Quest For Nothing’. Hold on tight to your seat and enjoy!”

They have no idea the destruction they’ve wrought against their own kind. Oh well. At least we get some killer tunes out of it…

Since our days as a species are numbered thanks to the eventual AI uprising, you should make sure to take the time to see Voivod live as soon as you can. Starting next month, they’ll be touring all over Europe with the likes of Opeth before setting off on their own. Check out the dates below:
