Doom and Grind Mix to Create Turbid North’s Latest Single “The Old Ones”

Seven years since their last record released, the Texas-by-way-of-Alaska band Turbid North announced their return with some new music and details about a new album release.

Set for release on January 20, The Decline will be the band’s third studio effort. To celebrate the announcement of their next release, the band dropped a new single “The Old Ones,” along with an accompanying music video that you can check out below.

Since 2012, the band has been comprised of guitarist and vocalist Nick Forkel, Unearth’s Chris O’Toole on bass, and Jono Garrett on drums. Their sound can most accurately be described as stoner, sludge metal with some thrash, death, and grind thrown into the mix. Everything is heavy and everything hits you hard.

Forkel also recorded, mixed and mastered the entire album. According to him, the new album is a “transcendent experience” of a concept album that’s set in a sci-fi world that sort of resembles our own.

“It’s all part of one story. It’s a collection of songs that delves into the downfall and self-destruction of a person. I went through some personal things that spawned this idea. Real experiences influenced these songs, lyrically and musically. It’s darker and more personal for me than any other Turbid North record.”

The Decline will release on January 20, but you can preorder the album today.
