Sh*t That Comes Out Today – March 10, 2023

I would write a snarky intro but Primitive Man made my tinnitus worse last night and I can’t hear my own thoughts. Browse available physical products and remember: life is short, so listen to more death-sludge.

Common Wounds

Common Wounds (Protagonist Music)

If you miss “real” emo and post-hardcore, look no further than Common Wounds, a new band from members of Landmine Marathon and Run With the Hunted. Common Wounds is filled to the brim with burly, angular riffs and noise rock swagger. This is cathartic music.

Dirge (Immersive Sounds)

Mumbai-India based sludgemongers Dirge leveled up on their second album, evolving their sound to feature sprawling post-metal compositions a la Jupiterian, Amenra, Isis and even Pallbearer. Composed of four hefty tracks, Dirge nails the balance between atmospheric scene-setting and emotionally-crushing doom. Check out the beautiful video for “Hollow” below.

Periphery V: Djent Is Not a Genre (3DOT)

Whether or not you agree with the sentiment that djent is not a genre, it’s also the name of Periphery’s new album. Despite the members’ antagonizing over the value of guitar music in various interviews throughout the year, Periphery V features the usual guitar wizardry you would expect from the group, as well as—you guessed it!—plenty of djent chugging. The pop sensibilities are strong here and Periphery do a nice job balancing it with heaviness.
