72 Seasons is Metallica’s Lowest Billboard Top 200 Debut Since …And Justice For All

0

For the first time in 35 years, a new Metallica album didn’t debut at number one on the Billboard 200 Chart, making it technically the band’s worst debut since 1988’s …And Justice For All. Sure, the band’s 12th studio album has proven to be a divisive one, but even releases like St. Anger ended up on the top spot.

Metallica’s spot at the top of the chart was occupied by controversial country star Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time for the seventh week in a row.

Since launch, Metallica’s managed to sell the equivalent of 146,000 units, with 134,000 of those units coming from actual album sales and the rest being reflected in streaming services.

That being said, it’s important to note that this is only affecting the U.S. Billboard chart. Across the pond in the U.K., 72 Seasons managed to land in their top spot, which is the first time Metallica’s done that since Death Magnetic.

And though they didn’t land at the number one point in the Top 200 list, that doesn’t mean 72 Seasons didn’t get its fair share of recognition from Billboard. In fact, the album reached the top spot on Billboard’s Top Album Sales, Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts.

Despite the fact that they didn’t hit the top of every chart available to them, Metallica will kick off their massive world tour later this week, starting with a trek throughout Europe before heading back to the states.
