Judas Priest’s Epic Single “Panic Attack” Proves Age is Just a Number

0

If you ever need proof that age ain’t nothin’ but a number… in the legal way and not the metalcore frontman grooming young female fans way… then look no further than Judas Motherfucking Priest. After more than five decades making great rock and metal music for the masses, the band with a majority of its members in their 70s just dropped a killer new single in “Panic Attack.”

As the first single off their upcoming album Invincible Shield, this new track is one hell of a way to introduce Judas Priest’s 19th studio effort. Starting off with some synth in the mix along with soaring guitars, this track just builds and builds as a killer riff and pounding drums crest like a wave into the full-frontal attack you’d expect from modern Judas Priest. Sure, it’s no Painkiller, but after the insane dynamo that was 2018’s Firepower, this new tune feels like a continuation of what they were doing only five years ago.

Listening to “Panic Attack,” I can instantly imagine them playing this in front of a massive crowd. Thousands of heavy metal adherents chanting along to the “Panic attack/Panic attack” call outs. What’s particularly surprising about this song is that it’s managed to sound exactly like a Judas Priest song without sounding overly rote and old hat. I can see scores of heshers old and new banging their heads to this one.

Anyway, this new track’s release isn’t a surprise. The band teased it shortly after announcing that their new album Invincible Shield was slated for release on March 8 in front of more than 100,000 fans at last weekend’s Power Trip festival.

If this is any indication of the rest of the album, I am optimistic for what we’re about to witness. While we’ll have to wait and see if it will hit the top of the charts, we already know that the band have plans to do a quick U.K. tour for the first time in almost a decade just days after the new album’s release. Saxon and Uriah Heep will join them on that run. So if you’ll be in the area next March and want to catch Priest in their homeland, be sure to check out the dates below.

Invincible Shield will be available on March 8, but you can pre-order your copy today.
