Rivers of Nihil Release the “Hellbirds” with Their Latest Single

0

It was a year ago almost to the day that Rivers of Nihil parted ways with their founding vocalist Jake Dieffenbach and in that time, things have changed for the band. The now four-piece moved bassist Adam Biggs from backing vocals to main vocals, they recruited former Black Crown Initiate guitarist Andy Thomas, and then Biggs became a first-time dad, so yeah — lots of shit going on in Rivers of Nihil.

Earlier today, the band dropped the second single featuring this new four-piece line up, titled “Hellbirds” along with a music video shot by My Good Eye Visuals’ David Brodsky and Allison Woest. And after listening to the new track for a bit now, I can now safely report that RON’s sound on this one features enough broken glass and fury to remind you that they’re here to fucking stay.

Biggs said the new single was among the “heaviest songs we’ve ever written.”

“‘Hellbirds’ is a song that was actually largely written during the sessions for The Work. We couldn’t find a place for the song on that album, but we knew it would see the light of day sometime because it’s easily one of the heaviest songs we’ve ever written, and we’ve reworked it to display the raw power of the new lineup. The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone you might consider a ‘typical’ person in this day and age; worn out, drug addicted, nihilistic and living in the wake of so many things he can’t control. It’s an anthem for people who hail from dead end towns like us.”

This, along with their previously released single “The Sub-Orbital Blues,” reminds us that Rivers of Nihil is here to fucking stay.

In addition to the new song, the band’s got an European tour with Lorna Shore headlining and themselves, Ingested, and Distant as support. You can find the full list of dates below.
