Job for a Cowboy Announce New Album Moon Healer, Unleash Its Second Single “The Forever Rot”

At the start of the new year, Job for a Cowboy made waves by revealing that they were fucking finally finishing their new album. Their return as a band had been heralded and teased for a while, but we’re finally here. On February 23, 2024, Job for a Cowboy will release their first full-length studio effort in a decade with Moon Healer, via Metal Blade Records.

Just as they did with 2014’s Sun Eater, this new record is looking to be a concept album of sorts, with a sound that’s just as much brutal and uncompromising as their previous work. With a new lineup featuring the likes of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer Navene Koperweis (who joined in 2020), the band sounds like they’re ready to go.

As for why the band took so long to put this out, Davy said other projects and his desire to prioritize his life and family for an extended period of time, caused the delay.

“I had to take a step back in the band for family. It was the catalyst that eventually created a fork in the road for all of us. We all drifted into our separate paths. Fatherhood, additional music projects, academic degrees, and careers outside the band took priority and life’s focus.

“Everything lined up for us to collaborate on a new project together; it was time to cross the threshold for something new.”

Today’s news comes roughly two months after the drop of the album’s first single “The Agony Seeping Storm.” Likewise, today’s announcement comes with the release of the album’s closing track and second single, “The Forever Rot,” which you can check out below.

When talking about the new record, Davy said he sees the new record being part-sci-fi pulp novel and part psychedelic acid trip.

“I envision this as a death metal album born from the mystical confines of an alchemist’s laboratory. The music acts as potent potions, inducing hallucinogenic journeys that unlock the secrets of the universe.”

Moon Healer will be released on February 23, 2024, via Metal Blade Records. You can preorder your copy today. For a full track listing and various formats that’ll be available, be sure to scroll down for more.
