Sunn O))) Released Two New Singles in Honor of Fallen Musicians

0

A pair of brand new tracks from seminal drone metal outfit Sunn O))) have hit the intertubes today, giving fans the one or two notes they crave. The tracks, titled “Evil Chuck” and “Ron G. Warrior” were written as tribute pieces for the late Death frontman Chuck Schuldiner and Brotherhood vocalist Ron Guardipee, respectively.

Along with today’s digital release, Sub Pop Singles Club subscribers will soon get their hands on the physical 7″ vinyl release in the very near future. Leading up to their collaboration with Sub Pop Singles Club, Sunn O))) said it made sense to do something special since 2023 marks their 25th anniversary.

“In Sunn O)))’s 25th year, this is an extraordinary ‘full-circle’ moment for us. We grew up in north Seattle, began our musical collaboration in Seattle in the early 90’s and were raised on the Sub Pop singles series those days. The series had an incredible history, with many of our favorite bands participating.

“It’s also Sub Pop’s 35th anniversary, Earth2’s 30th anniversary, and the Sunn O))) Model T’s 50th anniversary this year! Sunn O))) would like to thank Jonathan Poneman, Nick Turner and all of the Sub Pop team for inviting us into this legacy.”

In addition to the two new tracks, which you can hear in the player below, Sunn O))) have a number of tour dates lined up in November and December for the Shoshin (初心) Duo project. You can check out the dates for those shows below.
