“It’s Not OK” to Miss This New Song from The Obsessed

Doom metal motherfuckers The Obsessed are back with a new album coming next year and a brand new single to piss your neighbors off with. The track, titled “It’s Not OK,” is the first single off the forthcoming studio release Gilded Sorrow.

Set as the band’s fifth full-length album, Gilded Sorrow is slated for a February 16 release via Ripple Music. It’s the band’s first release as a four-piece, with the addition of Jason Taylor on guitar. Frontman Scott “Wino” Weinrich, said the band’s current lineup makes for a meaner, more punchy version of The Obsessed that cuts through on the new album.

“Adding Jason Taylor as second guitarist was one of the best decisions I’ve made because he’s a virtuoso guitar player and I must say he contributed quite a bit of good stuff to this record.

“I think [Gilded Sorrow] the heaviest thing I’ve ever done. Heavy in a sense as not just sludge heavy, but well-rounded. And it sounds fantastic. Everything I do with [producer] Frank Marchand gets better and better. He knows what the fuck he’s doing.”

Along with the addition of Taylor, Gilded Sorrow is also The Obsessed’s first album with bassist Chris Angleberger. Drummer Brian Costantino played on last album Sacred.

As for the track itself, “It’s Not OK” was unveiled yesterday with the release of a live video filmed at this year’s Freak Valley Festival. Weinrich said the song was a direct callout to “keyboard warriors” that talk shit on the internet but wouldn’t dare back their statements up in person.

“This song is about and dedicated to all the loud mouth keyboard warriors, and so-called “friends” who steal from you, conveniently forget about debts, stab you in the back, instigate Internet rumours, talk shit in the press, while being the first to run away from any face to face confrontations. Simply, these people and their actions suck and ‘It’s not OK.’ Enough said.”

Gilded Sorrow will be released on February 16 via Ripple Music, but depending on whether you’re in the U.S. or an international fan, you can preorder your copy today.
