King Diamond Celebrates Halloween with a Music Video for “Masquerade of Madness”

0

It only makes sense that King Diamond would do something cool on Halloween. The man’s made a living writing about the creepy and macabre for decades now, so when I got an email saying he’d just dropped a music video for “Masquerade of Madness,” the only thought that came to mind was “yeah, that checks out.”

Apparently, this video’s been four years in the works, as all the footage was shot in a single day back in 2019. You may recall, but that was the year that “Masquerade of Madness” was initially released, but COVID fucked everything up surrounding this video’s release, making it both an old video and brand new video at the same time.

According to King Diamond, he’s only recently reached out to David Brodsky and Allison Woest of MyGoodEye Visuals to find out how the video had progressed. And while it’d been a long time to finally get out the gate, the level of excitement from the King Diamond camp sounds off the charts.

“The video was all but forgotten as the world came to a standstill – we never saw a single frame from all the footage. Years later, as things began to pick up and writing began for both new Mercyful Fate and King Diamond records, we wondered, what happened to that video from four years ago? So we decided to check in with David Brodsky and a couple of weeks later, we had the first cut of the video.

“I was speechless! I had nothing to criticize and after just a few notes from Andy LaRocque, the video for ‘Masquerade of Madness’ was finished! There’s so much mood and black and white is used in a perfect way with Jodi’s performances. The visuals fit the music flawlessly and this is now among my favorite King Diamond videos along with ‘Sleepless Nights’ and ‘Welcome Home’ – and not to forget of course, our double live DVD.

“This new video and the release of ‘Masquerade of Madness’ on 12″ vinyl is our Halloween gift to the fans. We hope you enjoy this as much as we do! Happy Halloween, it’s not just a dream!”

In addition to the new video, King Diamond is releasing “Masquerade of Madness” on a special 12-inch EP that will also feature live performances of “Welcome Home” and “Arrival” from the band’s Graspop Festival performance. That LP will come in a couple variants depending on where you’re ordering from. You can pre-order the vinyl at this location.
