Joey Belladonna is Finally Recording Vocals for the Upcoming Anthrax Album

It seems like we’ve been in a constant holding pattern as we’ve waited for Joey Belladonna to get his ass in the studio for Anthrax‘s follow up to their 2018 album For All Kings, but the wait’s over. In a video posted yesterday, it seems “in due time” has come, as the wannabe journeyman Journey singer posted a potato-quality video on his official YouTube channel announcing he was getting to work on the album.

The 12 second video, which you can check out below, looks like it was shot on a Motorola flip phone from 2006 but it gets its point across.

“What’s up? Today’s the day, getting ready to record a new record [and] doing some vocals starting today. I’m excited. Anthrax.”

His time in the studio had been up in the air for a while now, as various projects and scheduling issues forced some delays, according to multiple interviews on the matter.

Previously, guitarist Scott Ian had revealed that he’d been working on a number of songs prior to Belladonna’s arrival in the studio. All that he needed, he said during an appearance on Eddie Trunk’s Sirius XM show Trunk Nation, was that he was happy with the lyrics he was writing.

“I think it’s more the onus on me of being happy with the lyrics I’m writing. I actually had three or four songs written months ago, and then I revisited them like a month ago and I threw ’em all in the garbage. I was just like ‘this is crap.’ But I’m in a much better place with that now.”

Still, with Belladonna now in the studio at the start of November, there’s still a possibility that the record could be done by Scott Ian’s previously mentioned time frame of “Christmas [or] New Year’s.”

Honestly, this shit’s exciting. With Belladonna now laying down vocals, the new Anthrax album is closer and closer to reality. Here’s hoping we get to hear something new from the guys soon!
