Kiss Assure Us Their Avatars Will “Get Better”

0

We’ve already shared the very weird news that Kiss are actually going to stay around even following their final show and play as avatars. Since then, Gene Simmons has wasted no time in assuring us that the avatars will keep getting better and better.

The final Kiss show happened at Madison Square Garden on December 2. At the show, they announced that, similar to the Abba Voyage show in London, Kiss would be continuing indefinitely as an avatar band.

The avatars come from Industrial Light & Magic, George Lucas’ company, and were financed and produced by Pophouse Entertainment, the company that did the Abba Voyage show. The avatar band have yet to play a show, but the plan is they will continue the band well into the future. Gene Simmons told fans at a recent meet-and-greet that they’ll just keep getting better and better.

“They’re gonna get better, that animated stuff. There’s so much being planned, even beyond my comprehension. But they’re spending, oh, about 200 million [dollars] to take it to the next level.”

While this may seem a bit odd considering the avatars are so new, it fits with Simmons personality to be braggy and a bit insecure, and it makes sense that he would be especially that way in this case, since many are skeptical about the idea of avatar musicians. It also could be because not everyone associated with the band is on-board. Ex-guitarist Ace Frehley isn’t a fan, and shared in a recent interview with Rock Antenne that he doesn’t really get what the creators of the avatar are going for.

“I’m happy it’s over, because I’m not gonna be compared to them anymore… But I don’t get this avatar thing that they’re gonna do. I mean, I saw some of it on a video on YouTube last night. It kind of looked like it was geared towards children. And it’s not rock ‘n’ roll. I get up on stage without backing tracks, plug my amp into it, plug my guitar into a Marshall, and go. That’s it. It’s always been that way and always will be.”
