Gatekeepers Beware: Ghost Says “Lots to Come” in 2024

0

If there’s anything shitty metal gatekeepers love more than anything, it’s being the first person in a comment thread to tell you how much they hate Ghost and don’t think their music is metal enough. We’ve seen it all before and we’ll likely see a ton of it on this post. But that’s neither here nor there. This post is about 2024 and new things going on with the band.

Just as most other bands did over New Year’s, Ghost posted a greeting to fans on their Instagram account, promising that there was “lots to come” in 2024. The band’s been relatively quiet since they finished their long touring schedule. And while we haven’t heard anything about there being a “new” Papa, there’s sure to be some shit going down since Papa Emeritus IV didn’t eat it at the band’s October 5 show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane. Papa, who’s played by frontman Tobias Forge, said at the Brisbane show that it was his “finale,” though there wouldn’t be any pomp and circumstance over the whole ordeal.

Last year was a pretty big year for Ghost, having toured the world in the Imperatour and Re-Imperatour runs, and they released their latest covers EP, Phantomime. They also collaborated with Joe Elliot and Patrick Wilson for two songs, which was cool depending on who you asked, and finally released the rare track “Zenith” on streaming services.

Oh and don’t forget the buttplug and dildo set came back.

As for new music, we’ve already heard from Forge that he’s got a few songs in the works for the follow up to Impera, though when we’ll hear those songs remains to be seen. The band’s also got a movie of some kind in the works and while we don’t know much more about that as well, we do know it uses footage from the band’s two shows in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum.

So yeah, when Forge/Papa said a lot is coming this year, that might just be an understatement — much to the chagrin of grumpy gatekeepers.
