Oh Look, A Trailer for the Ghost Movie That Barely Tells Us Anything

0

Everyone’s favorite band to bitch about whether or not they’re even metal is back with some cryptic bullshit, as Ghost posted a 30 second trailer for their upcoming movie. Now, there’s nothing cryptic about the existence of a movie, as we’ve known since last year that the band recorded live footage from both of their Los Angeles shows. But this trailer they’ve put out doesn’t really give us more than some slow motion Papa Emeritus IV, a quick horror movie reference, and the fact that it’s “coming soon to cinemas worldwide.”

As you can see in the clip posted below, the trailer features a shot of Papa Emeritus IV taking a bow and skipping off stage with a frame of Sister Imperator standing in front of a New York City subway stop a la The Exorcist. That sort of nod to iconic horror movies is nothing new for Ghost, since that’s essentially where their album cover art comes from, but it also speaks to the nature of this film. Last year, frontman and mastermind Tobias Forge revealed that plans for that footage are significantly more involved than a simple live concert release.

“We were essentially shooting a film. And we used two nights of crowds as extras…It’s going to be a film with a concert element. So a lot of what you experienced [at the two LA shows] is going to be part of this project.”

So if we’re to get something that’s more than just a concert video, then this could be how find out what happens to Papa Emeritus IV, whose final show was apparently in Australia at the end of the band’s tour. That story beat — if you happen to care about Ghost lore — has been hanging unresolved for a while now, as there have been hints in their various little online videos that the character wasn’t long for this world. It just looks now like we’ll have to wait to find out more.
