Necrophobic’s “As Stars Collide” is a Melodic New Single

Blackened death metal stalwarts Necrophobic have a new album titled In The Twilight Grey coming out on the Ides of March (that’s March 15 for our less educated folk) and to get the hype train rolling, they dropped its second single, “As Stars Collide.”

As the title suggests, this one’s got a cosmic bent to it, with the song leaning toward the more melodic side of things. Lead guitarist Sebastian Ramstedt called the track “the most important song on the album,” explaining that it has a very personal connection to his youth.

“It starts off with the main melody, that was actually something my mother sang to me as a kid in the early 70’s. It is almost like a chant, or a dark lullaby. I wanted to honor her melody, but put it in my own context. I used one of the oldest stories ever told and drew inspiration from ‘Innana’s Descent’ – the tale where the morning and evening star meet in the underworld to decide whether good or evil should reign. I wanted to create something that stretched beyond the metal barriers.”

In The Twilight Grey will be released on March 15 via Century Media Records, though you can preorder your copy today.
