Therapy? Announce U.K. Dates for Troublegum 30th Anniversary Tour

0

It’s been 30 years since Therapy? dropped their most iconic and seminal album Troublegum, which for some of us at MetalSucks find it hard to believe. Yet to celebrate without the existential dread, the Irish band is going on tour this year to mark the occasion.

Kicking off this November with seven special shows in the U.K. — yes, you’ll have to make travel plans and if you snag tickets now — the tour run will hit up Edinburgh, Nottingham, Norwich, Southampton, Manchester, Bristol, and London. Tickets are on sale now.

Released on February 7, 1994, Troublegum‘s 30th anniversary was literally this past Wednesday. At the time, it reached number 5 in the U.K. album charts, with some of its biggest songs like “Nowhere,” “Screamager,” and “Trigger Inside” absolutely blowing up.

Frontman Andy Cairns recently told the folks over at Louder that the band’s success was completely unexpected at the time, despite knowing how hard they’d worked on their music.

“As a band, we were not expecting the impact that Troublegum would make. We knew we had worked very hard at our craft, every album gained more attention and we had steadily made more friends but even the earlier release and chart success of Screamager (a nod to both our Irish Punk godfathers and current ‘alternative and noise rock’ favorites) couldn’t prepare us for just how much our lives were about to change.

“The album seemed to click with people all over the globe and what had begun as three young, ordinary men from the North of Ireland wanting to make the kind of music they would like to hear themselves became something that seemed to take on a life of its own as it found its way out into the world.”

With an eye on celebrating that unexpected success, Therapy? plan to use this tour to play the entire album in full, along with some other songs from the band’s career.

“To mark the 30th anniversary of Troublegum, we’ll be heading out on tour this year to celebrate with a set, but not just a perfunctory play through, this will be based on Therapy? of 1994 and featuring songs from that era.

“When we started out in County Antrim in 1989 we could never have foreseen this beast of punk metal noise being such a landmark record. Come along and celebrate with us as we play banger after banger!”
