Bruce Dickinson Has “10 or 12 Different Ideas” for The Mandrake Project Follow-Up

0

He may be 65 years old and a total narc, but Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is the furthest thing from lazy. And that’s aside from all the running that dude does on stage at his age. Case and point is the incredibly busy 2024 he’s got lined up: after releasing his first solo album in nearly two decades The Mandrake Project today, he’s got a stacked touring itinerary, and the continued release of a comic book series.

But that’s apparently not enough on his place. While speaking with Loudwire Nights, Dickinson revealed that he’s already planning on working on his next solo album.

“In terms of music, obviously The Mandrake Project, the album is done, out March the 1st, and then we’ll see how people take to it. But I’m going to be writing music in two or three weeks, I hope, with Roy again, because we’ve got more stuff we wanna do. So, yeah, there’ll be another album, because we already have 10 or 12 different ideas for it.”

According to Dickinson, the COVID pandemic and ensuing lockdowns really hampered a lot of his professional life, but one place it actually helped him was in his creative endeavors.

“We all got locked up for three years, so in that time, it gives you a lot of things — perspective, a chance to let ideas breathe, and a chance to discriminate against what’s truly important and what’s really not important. Now, of course, the world is back and we are just crazy busy.”

With the music side of The Mandrake Project now out and in the wild, the next creative step is to contniue releasing the 12-issue comic series that’s supposed to take place over three years. That side of things is the result of a collaboration with Z2 Comics, with author Tony Lee, who’s also worked on Doctor Who, Marvel, and DC comics penning the story and Staz Johnson of Marvel and DC doing the artwork.

Now with everything pretty much back to normal, Dickinson said he’s got something like 90 shows split between his solo and Iron Maiden tours, both of which you can see the full list of shows below. And all that’s planned with just a couple weeks off in between.

“So that’s full-on. There’s like a three-week break in the middle, but that’s it, during which time we’ll be doing absolutely nothing — lying down somewhere going, ‘Okay.’ Recharge the batteries and off we go for round two. But it’s really exciting, the intensity of it all.”
