Thy Art Is Real Estate

If you’re wondering what happens when a metal vocalist gets epically booted from his own band for spouting off some anti-trans bullshit, yet still needs to make ends meet, look no further than ex-Thy Art Is Murder vocalist Chris “CJ” McMahon. That dude traded his long hair and denim for slacks, short hair, and a new career selling homes.

In a recent Instagram post, the former vocalist revealed that he was now slinging homes in New South Wales, Australia as a way to make a living for Harcourts Lifestyles. It’s wild to see him in that position, but life comes at ya fast sometimes.

According to a post from Steve Arentz, who we assume is McMahon’s new boss, his newest realtor “left the music industry where he was the front man for a massive international band,” the former vocalist revealed in a comment that he was still up for recording guest vocals “if [the opportunities] come along and are not just wasting time.”

McMahon’s professional life completely changed last September when he was kicked out of Thy Art Is Murder. The cliff notes version is as follows:

McMahon reposted some anti-trans content by far-right provocateur Matt Walsh and then commented that a trans person’s supportive mother should “be burned to death.” That led to his comments getting taken down by Instagram, which led to him throwing an online bitch fit, which led to the band and McMahon separately posting a weak statement in support of the trans community, which ultimately led to McMahon’s ousting and replacement on Godlike.

There are some more nuanced brush strokes in there, I’m sure, but that’s the general gist of what went down.

So there ya have it. If you live in the Australian state of New South Wales and are looking to buy a house, you may end up dealing with McMahon.
