Former Pig Destroyer Member Blake Harrison Has Died

0

Some incredibly sad news to share coming out of the Pig Destroyer camp, as former member Blake Harrison has passed away. He was 48 years old.

Though mostly known for work in the aforementioned Virginia-based grindcore outfit from 2006 to 2022, Harrison is also credited with work in other projects like Tentacles of God, Triac, Zealot R.I.P., Daybreak, and Hatebeak. In addition to his music work, Harrison regularly contributed to Decibel Magazine for their ‘For Those About to Squawk’ column. Folks over at the magazine have since confirmed Harrison’s death.

As news of his passing rippled across the metal community, tributes from friends, fans, and musicians have begun pouring in, with many speaking to Harrison’s wonderful character.

Sunrot guitarist Christopher Eustaquio: “We all lost a good friend today. Blake was not only a huge inspiration for me for many many years but later on we became friends & in turn, he became a big supporter of what WE did. Life is crazy like that sometimes. I’m forever in debt for his support. Rest in power, Blake Harrison forever.”

Reptilian Records owner Christoper Xavier Donovan also shed some light on who Harrison was, having featured on a number of the label’s releases.

“It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to one of my favorites, Blake Harrison, a true friend and creative comedic genius. Blake was always proud of how many times he appeared on Reptilian releases, having been a member of Daybreak, Triac, and the brains behind Hatebeak, before touring many countries in Pig Destroyer. We spent years watching B-movies, discussing the Zodiac Killer, laughing together, and having whole conversations made up of Longmont Potion Castle quotes. We had kept in frequent contact since I moved south and he even visited a few times… He was an original, a character, a hilarious creative force, and a loyal and trustworthy friend. This is a loss to us all, he will be missed and will live on in the hearts, minds, and record collections of many.

“Hail Blake “the Snake” Harrison!”

Donovan revealed Harrison’s alleged cause of death, but we’re not sharing that information since we can’t verify it at this time. For his own privacy, we will wait until official channels reveal that info.

Our thoughts go out to Harrison’s friends, family, and loved ones during this extremely difficult time.
