YouSuck: People Seemingly Want to Give Marilyn Manson Another Chance

0

Over the weekend, we ran a poll asking you guys what you thought about Marilyn Manson‘s upcoming tour with Five Finger Death Punch and if you were alright with him coming back to music. It’d been a while since he’d performed live or put out any new tunes since a number of women filed lawsuits against him for a range of alleged crimes including sexual assault, rape, and a slew of other bad shit that we’ve covered extensively.

While there are still some active cases against Manson, a number of others have either been dismissed or settled out of court. Though that doesn’t necessarily prove his guilt or innocence one way or another, we felt it was the right time to get a feel for public perception. Keep in mind that this isn’t a scientific poll by any stretch, but it seems like a majority of people are willing to give Manson another chance.

I’m a fan and he deserves another chance (57% – 1,580 votes)

According to the data below, a large contingent of Manson fans came out in support of their guy, stating that they were in favor of his return. Given the number of commenters on every Manson post claiming that he did nothing wrong or the lawsuits were all lies or other borderline unhinged/angry sentiments spewed online, this really is no surprise here.

Facebook user Lori Beth Stewart said she was super stoked that Manson was going back on tour saying, “I think it is awesome he is coming back. I got the tickets and VIP package and cannot wait!”

One comment that we kept seeing was people being excited to see a sober Manson perform in 2024. It’s no secret that the shock rocker’s had battles with addiction in the past that have spilled out onto the stage. To that end, Facebook user Traci Marie said she was excited.

“I’m very excited for his new work and upcoming tour. I’m curious to see what a sober Manson will be like performance wise.”

Who cares? (14.7% – 408 votes)

The next largest contingent, in classic MetalSucks fashion, was the “Who cares?” lot. It’s honestly amazing that this group of respondents wasn’t larger. Given Manson’s output over recent years and its… less than favorable comparison to his far superior albums in the 90s, it’s amazing people weren’t ready to just let him fade into obscurity. Then there’s also the Gen Zers who weren’t even around for Manson’s heyday.

For some people like Instagram user @khal_lal52, they may have been fans of Manson’s in the past, but the Manson we have today isn’t the one everyone wants, so they’re indifferent about his “return.”

“Meh. He hasn’t been a good live performer in years, and hasn’t put out anything good but one or two songs maybe since Holy Wood. I wish he could still put out some raw aggressive shit, but he’s beyond past that at this point. Should’ve never let Twiggy go the first time.”

Either way, this group made for some hilarious commentary online. Though there were plenty of comments expressing their collective “meh,” it’s this one from Valeriy Vitomsky:

“0 f*cks have been given..”

I’m a fan but I don’t think he deserves another chance (12.9% – 358 votes)

In light of the accusations leveled against Manson, some fans were ready to write him off for good. Sometimes it’s hard to separate the art from the artist, so for these individuals, it was all just too much, there was too much smoke for there not to be fire, so to speak.

Such was the case for Instagram user @hattiethehatter:

“Considering how many people came forward with receipts I’m not for it, loved him as a teenager and his music will always have a special place in my heart. But it feels tainted now.”

I’m not a fan and I wish he would just go away (10.1% – 281 votes)

These people were never in Manson’s camp, so they have less skin in the game. That being said, it was important to differentiate between this group of voters and the previous one where fans didn’t want him coming back.

Though not as vocal as the other subsets, there were definitely some people who made their voices heard against Manson. Instagram user @keegan_in_the_north put it pretty succinctly how he feels about Manson:

“You mean the Marylin the abuser Manson? Nah, he should be in jail. Let him fade into nothingness.”

I’m not a fan but I think he deserves another chance (5.2% – 144 votes)

Finally, there were those that felt it was fine that Manson was coming back, despite not even liking his own music. Despite being the smallest contingency, some like Instagram users @infidelsquid laid out their thoughts pretty plainly.

“Not a huge Manson fan, but good for him. I’m sure there are a lot of his fans out there that are excited to see him, so that’s all that matters.”
