Kittie’s Morgan Lander Shines in New Single “We Are Shadows”

Two singles in and I’m willing to go out on a limb and say this whole Kittie revival thing is pretty damn good. Earlier today, the band released their latest single “We Are Shadows” that features a more melodic side of the band and showcases frontwoman Morgan Lander’s impressive vocal chops.

Whereas their previous single “Eyes Wide Open” was a badass headbanger, this new song has a different kind of intensity that honestly tells me they’re not fucking around. Having been on hiatus from 2017 to 2022, it’s apparent that the band understands that time in the spotlight can be short, so why not just leave it all out on the table.

In all honesty, while the band sounds great, I really want to point out Lander’s talents. It’s hard to be a vocalist, but sometimes it’s even harder to go from screaming your head off to belting out soaring vocals with the kind of feeling exhibited in “We Are Shadows.” Lander’s talents on this one really shine through.

Speaking about single, Lander said the song was a not-so-hopeful track about the challenges we all face in life.

“‘We Are Shadows’ is about the uncertainty of a future that we can no longer control. We have come to a critical place in life and in our world, and much like an eclipse overtaking the sun, we are losing the light.

“The image of shadows slowly fading in the evening darkness, and the analogy of ‘us’ as shadows in the night really illustrates the possibility of slowly fading into oblivion. It is not a song of hope however, it’s a song of coming to terms with the damage we do and acceptance of our fate. We’ve let darkness take hold, and so we are resolved to fade in the night with it”

With this being their second single since reuniting, we all know they’ve been working on their new album, but that’s about it. Either way, I know I’m excited to see what else this band has to offer in 2024.
