Down Announce a Show in New Mexico Next Month

New Orleans-based and fan favorite supergroup Down is seemingly getting back in the live performance groove, as they announced their first new show in two years will take place this June in New Mexico.

According to a post on their social media accounts, Down will play the Inn Of The Mountain Gods Resort And Casino in Mescalero, New Mexico on June 20. Consisting of Phil Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein, Jimmy Bower, and Pat Bruders, this will be the band’s first show since September 2022 when they played Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Virginia.

It’s been a while since we last heard from Down, as each of their individual members went off to do their own thing for a while. Anselmo’s been fronting the modern-day Pantera all over the world, Windstein released a new album with Crowbar, Bower’s been around a bit with Eyehategod, and Keenan’s been working on new music with Corrosion of Conformity.

And despite everyone’s busy schedule, Windstein recently spilled the beans to Concrete Spew ahead of a Crowbar show in Virginia that Down was working on new music and that it sounds like their classic album NOLA.

“To me, it sounds more old-school Down, and the reason I say that is, I think we got to a point where we, like, the Nola record is so simple and it just wrote itself; it was so simple and that’s how this is coming about which is great.

“We’re not overthinking it; we’re not trying to make things too complex. Philip’s not trying to write so many lyrics and things and we’re not trying to have… You know, we just kind of got – I hate to say ‘got away,’ because anything we do is Down, but to me, we kind of got a little bit… like, we needed to go back and look at each other and just go, ‘let’s just get in the room and do it like we did from the beginning,’ and that’s what it feels like to me.

“It’s very magical. The ideas and working together just bounce off of one another. It’s a natural thing.”

We can’t wait to hear what’s next from the band, and hopefully, this will be the first of many dates the band will announce. Until then, mark your calendars for the one lone tour date:

06/20 Mescalero, NM @ Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino
