Primus Auctions Off Instruments from Sick New World Festival to Benefit Children’s Hospital

Are you ready for the most depraved heavy metal story you’ve ever heard? Well, too bad, because this is the exact opposite of that. Get ready for the most wholesome metal story you’re going to hear about all week!

The recent Sick New World Festival last weekend in Las Vegas saw legendary funk metal pioneers Primus performing, but there was one problem: according to Metal Injection, even though the band made it to the festival, their gear got caught in a snowstorm. But the show must go on, so bassist Les Claypool and guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde went to the local Guitar Center, bought a pair of matching Fenders, and just played the show as planned.

Well, now that Les and Ler have been reunited with their instruments, the band aren’t letting their stand-in instruments go to waste. They’re auctioning off the gear they used for the festival—autographed of course—and donating 100% of the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Leave it to Primus to make the best of a bad situation. It’s honestly such a wholesome moment from the band that once wrote a song called “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.” They should play that one for the children’s hospital.

Bids are open until tomorrow at 12 pm PT, and, at the time I’m writing this, the high bid for the guitar is at $8,266 and the bass is at $20,000. So if you have some kids who just decided they wanted to go to Community College instead and you’ve got an extra $30k or so to drop, you can own your own small piece of Primus’ Sick New World performance.
