Sh*t That Comes Out Today: June 6, 2025
Summertime, man. Nothing quite like it. Well, unless you’re living in the southern hemisphere, at which point it’s winter and that sucks. Unless you like that sort of thing. I guess what I’m saying is regardless of what season it is, there’s plenty of new metal releases out there to get you through the day. Enjoy!
Bludgeoned By Deformity
Epoch Of Immortality (Iron Fortress Records)
Featuring an all-star cast comprised of Devin Swank (Sanguisugabogg), Ethan Buttery (Jivebomb), Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Scour), Bradon Studebaker (Immortal Torment, ex-Rejoice) and Andre Pickens (Tsuris), this debut EP is chock full of death metal brutality. But that shouldn’t surprise anyone given the pedigrees of everyone involved. It’s just pure, unrelenting, unadulterated power — like a killdozer barreling through a small town.

Gaahls WYRD
Braiding The Stories (Season Of Mist)
Six years after the release of their debut full-length album GastiR – Ghosts Invited, ex-Gorgoroth frontman Gaahl returns with his gothic black metal project for another look into the dark. Written as a journey “inward, between the riverbeds of consciousness and dreams,” it’s an album that seeks to focus on the subconscious, rather than the physical bounds of the world around us. Atmospheric, haunting, and cloistering, it’s definitely an interesting listen.

Gruesome
Silent Echoes (Relapse)
If you’re looking for a no-nonsense, head-on death metal onslaught, look no further than this one. Written and recorded in the spirit of Death’s Human, there are numerous moments throughout this where you wonder how the fuck they managed to resurrect Chuck Schuldiner just to write some riffs. If you love that kind of old school death metal, you simply can’t ignore this one.

Katatonia
Nightmares Are Extensions Of The Waking State (Napalm Records)
As their follow up to Sky Void of Stars, this new release from Katatonia is yet another slab of proggy metal goodness that remains largely accessible while still remaining a known quantity for long-time fans. It may not be back-breakingly heavy, but that’s not really why you’re seeking this out in the first place.

Turnstile
Never Enough (Roadrunner Records)
These guys have been storming the mainstream over the last few years and it just seems like no matter what, they keep on growing. Grammy nominations, performances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and Taco Bell ad collabs don’t mean much if the music ain’t good and apparently a ton of you folks enjoy their brand of melodic hardcore. Not my bag, but you can enjoy the fuck out of it if it’s yours.
