Revocation Announce New Album ‘New Gods, New Masters’, “Cronenberged” Streaming Now
Oh, fuck yes everyone. One of the most anticipated albums of 2025 just got announced and I don’t know about you, but I’m fucking stoked. That’s because we now know death metal motherfuckers Revocation will be dropping New Gods, New Masters in just three months.
Set for release via Metal Blade Records on September 26, New Gods, New Masters will be Revocation‘s ninth full-length offering and their direct follow up to the insanely killer 2022 release Netherheaven. Speaking of the overarching conceit of this new record, frontman Dave Davidson said New Gods, New Masters looks inwards towards humanity’s need to be ruled by something.
“It seems as if that desire is encoded in our DNA. As science and our understanding of nature and the universe as a whole increases, the religions of the old gods start to become obsolete. However, I believe we’ve replaced our old gods with new ones, worshipping technology and creating a cult-like idolatry of innovators. I’ve been very fascinated with the development of Artificial Intelligence, and I’m deeply concerned where this could lead humanity whether it’s the slow march towards a technological dystopia or the all-out annihilation of our species.”
Featuring nine new tracks from the technical death metal outfit, it also features amazing collaborations with some of today’s top guns in the scene, including Gorguts’ Luc Lemay, Cattle Decapitation’s Travis Ryan, and Job For A Cowboy’s Jonny Davy. That last one is of special note this morning, as he’s involved in the album’s debut single “Cronenberged.”
With a title like that, you can probably guess that the song’s lyrical content and accompanying music video’s gonna be pretty gory. And yeah, you’d be right, said Davidson.
“I’m a massive sci-fi horror fan and love the body horror genre that David Cronenberg helped to create so this is my homage to that. Also, shout out to Rick And Morty for inspiring the song title.
“The video for ‘Cronenberged’ features tons of gore and practical effects. It was so fun to create a little mini sci-fi horror movie for this track. Getting to transform into a hideous tentacle monster was a real treat. I knew things were going well when the My Good Eye film crew were gagging at how gross it was off screen.”
New Gods, New Masters will be released on September 26 via Metal Blade Records, but you can preorder your copy today. The band will also kick off a tour following the release of the new album with Judiciary, Inferi, and Vomit Forth (on select dates).
