Primitive Man Announce New Album ‘Observance’, “Social Contract” Now Streaming
It’s been five years since we last had a new Primitive Man release, but that’s all going to change next month, as the doomy sludge metal outfit announced their forthcoming record Observance will drop on October 31. To mark the occasion, the band released the album’s lead single, “Social Construct.”
Complete with seven new tracks, Observance is Primitive Man’s follow up to 2020’s Immersion. And this time around, frontman Ethan Lee McCarthy says it’s a more personal look at the maladies that threaten not just society, but the sheer concept of finding happiness and success in music.
“[‘Social Contract’] deals with some of the universal issues that people are collectively facing in terms of the rise of authoritarianism and the erasure of history. It is a backdrop for some of the more personal issues I speak about. The overarching fear, madness, anger and dread to accompany the pain of the rest. The hits at the beginning of the song also suggest a clock ticking as I believe our time with life as we know it, is about to change drastically as things are currently not moving on a path that is sustainable. The video shows examples of these ‘problems’ and insinuates who may be to blame and who may be benefiting from techno feudalism and other ‘world events.’”
Observance will be released on October 31 via Relapse Records, but you can preorder your copy today. Primitive Man will be heading out on tour next month, so check out the full list of dates below.
