Dark Tranquillity, The Crown, and The Halo Effect to Honor Tomas Lindberg

The metal world was recently rocked by the loss of At The Gates vocalist Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg. His untimely death at 52 years old on September 16 was the result of a quiet battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Now, two months later, Dark Tranquillity, The Crown, and The Halo Effect are getting together and hosting a charity concert event that not only honors the late Lindberg, but also raises funds for charity.

Set to take place on December 6 at Monument 031 in Gothenburg, Sweden, all ticket sales for the aforementioned special event are going to Cancerfonden (The Swedish Cancer Foundation) and the Gardens of Grief fund set up by Malmö Massacre’s Elis Markskog.

According to the press release announcing this gig, organizers urged that the event wasn’t strictly a concert, but rather a gathering of people close to Lindberg to remember his legacy.

“Please note: this is a celebration of Lindberg’s legacy — not full-set concerts. The aim is to gather friends, fans and family alike and celebrate the music and honor their friend.”

Lindberg was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), which the Cleveland Clinic describes as a “rare type of cancer that affects your glandular tissues [that] commonly forms in your salivary glands,” back in December 2023. You may recall that the band unexpectedly axed all of their spring and summer shows the following month — that was why.

According to those close to him, Lindberg initially had a large portion of the roof of his mouth removed early on in his treatment and had also undergone chemotherapy following his diagnosis. Despite those efforts, doctors found that the cancer had returned earlier this year. Following a major “setback” that occurred this past May, it was then that At The Gates revealed Lindberg’s condition to the world and let fans know he was receiving “around-the-clock” care.
