Dragonfoce Covered Céline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”

I don’t pay much mind to track lists for yet-to-be-released albums, because, well, why the heck should I care what the songs are called? What good does it do me as a fan to know that the new Cannibal Corpse album has a song called “Face Fucking Chainsaw” or that there’s a track on the upcoming release from Dream Theater entitled “Prelude to Photosynthesis Pt. I”? The only time I actually glance at track lists is when there’s a new Metallica album, and that’s just to make sure they didn’t go and write another goddamn “Unforgiven” sequel.

But if I did pay attention to track lists from forthcoming releases, I might have noticed that Dragonforce’s new album, Extreme Power Metal, concludes with a cover of Céline Dion’s megahit, “My Heart Will Go On,” a.k.a. “The Titanic Song.” Which is. Y’know. Unexpected.

We won’t get to hear the entire track before EPM drops Friday (pre-order it here; get tickets to the band’s upcoming tour here) but the band has now released a video with samples from each track on the record, so you can hear one verse and one chorus of the cover. No surprises: it basically sounds like the original sped up with lots of shredding and keyboards. Which is. Y’know. Expected.

It should be all cued up for you below, but if it’s not for some reason, you can skip to 10:34 if you just wanna hear Dionforce:

Although nobody would have predicted Dragonforce were cover C-Di on their next album, the idea isn’t exactly new. Robot Zombie Army’s Ben Robson did it back in 2011, Woods of Trees released a black metal cover of the song in 2016, and Trivium’s Matt Heafy performed the track for fans on Twitch just last year (although his cover wasn’t really metal). There’s even this nifty death metal-style Céline Dion “My Heart Will Go On” shirt from 2013.

Still, Dragonforce’s version is… uh… the fastest? I think? So there’s that. Still, maybe the next metal band that wants to take a run at covering Ms. Dion should try “The Power of Love” or something.
