Ho boy, it’s exactly halfway through the year! That’s terrifying. Here’s some new music to counter your existential dread…

Sh*t That Comes Out Today – July 1, 2022

Municipal Waste

Electrified Brain (Nuclear Blast)

Look, we’ll be the first to admit that you’re not going to get anything too groundbreaking with the new Municipal Waste album. It’s a Municipal Waste album. But if you love thrash, this record is a thing of beauty. With a viciousness that matches its speed, Electrified Brain is just a pleasure to stomp around to from beginning to end, and features a fresh injection of energy into the Waste. Fun yourself to death.

Conjurer

Páthos (Nuclear Blast)

Reviewing this album after the new Municipal Waste, I’m reminded of a quote from The Simpsons‘ Fat Tony: “What if your family don’t like bread! They like…cigarettes?” Conjurer are fun, in their own way, but mostly they sound like if the heart’s processing of grief created toxic waste. Páthos is a swamp of fudge-thick melancholy, packed with as many crashes and catharses as 2018’s massive Mire but tempered with stronger moments of vulnerability throughout. This is powerful medicine, but it’s more like a salve that brings the poison to the surface than a soothing balm. Smoke ’em if you got ’em.

Greg Puciato

Mirrorcell (Federal Prisoner)

You know, I honestly expected Mirrorcell to basically be Greg Puciato‘s Billinger Bescape Blan. But this record is not only its own animal, but it’s an incredibly compelling one to boot. There’s a ton of languid, Billy Corgan-esque ’90s alternative rock present here, but it’s always conveyed through the lens of Puciato’s personal sense of introspective chaos. All of which is to say this is a cool, desert-oriented hard rock record, and you should check it out if you’re looking to soothe the savage beast rather than poke him with a stick.

Blood Command

Praise Armageddonism (Loyal Blood Records)

Well, damn, now Blood Command are firmly on my radar. With Praise Armageddonism, you get what is sorely missing in a lot of metal and hardcore: energy and fun. This shit bounces without stopping, and effortlessly merges pop punk, hardcore, and tons of other various musical influences into something packed to the gills with momentum and grinning nihilism. This might not be typical MetalSucks material, but we’d like to make it clear that if your underground death metal band made us want to dance as much as these guys do, we’d feature them, too.
