Forbidden Return with Their First New Song in 15 Years, “Divided By Zero”
Thrash metal heroes Forbidden are back with their first piece of new music in 15 years. The last album we had from Forbidden was in 2010. Which is crazy to think was almost two decades ago. What a way to make you feel super old.
However, they did drop an experimental techno EP titled Unbalanced in 2023, which no one saw coming. Fast forward to today, and the group are headed back to their roots. “Divided By Zero” is their brand-new track and is shared alongside an interesting video.
Speaking about their new release, Forbidden said:
“The opening riff for “Divided By Zero’ was the first thing Craig [Locicero] brought to the table as a new Forbidden song. The lyrics address the erosion of civility and society through divisive control of institutions, cultures, religion, and government. Without picking sides, ‘Divided By Zero’ points to anyone and everyone that partakes in this mass manipulation, willingly or unwittingly.
“The video for “Divided By Zero” is the stuff of dystopian nightmares, depicting how influential words and propaganda of the few have [the] power to sway the many. ‘Robots and monsters — how most of us unwittingly end up being one or the other through the multiple institutions’ relentless brainwashing and beating us down. All of the disturbing imagery, created by Ethan Renoe at Crumb Hill, visually captures the story perfectly, haunting, powerful, and poignant.”
Though it’s with a heavy heart to say, that Forbidden are falling soldiers to the AI realm, as the official music video for “Divided By Zero” is completely AI-generated. Which, if you ask me, honestly sucks. Especially as your first comeback after 15 years. But hey, no one asked me. I’ll happily give credit to the video director, Chris Kontos and George Anderson for the official edits.
