Nothing Announce New Album ‘a short history of decay’, “cannibal world” Streaming Now

When Nothing releases their fifth album a short history of decay this coming February, it will be almost six years since they last put out a full album. Of course, I’m talking about 2020’s The Great Dismal and from what I can tell from hearing the band’s new single “cannibal world,” it’s obvious that things are going to remain dour.

Set for release on February 27, 2026 via Run For Cover, the new album will apparently cover some heavy topics, including: ‘ageing, illness and the weight of memory’. But that’s by design, according to frontman Domenic ‘Nicky’ Palermo, who said this time around, he opted to cover untouched topics in the band’s repertoire.

“I’m writing about things that I’ve never really talked about before. Things I’ve always been scared to write about.”

Nothing is comprised of guitarist Doyle Martin (Cloakroom), bassist Bobb Bruno (Best Coast), drummer Zachary Jones (MSC, Manslaughter 777), a third guitarist Cam Smith (Ladder To God, Cloakroom), and Palermo.

According to the record label, there was a time when this record wasn’t even going to be a thing. Apparenty, Palermo told label reps that after the release of The Great Dismal, 2018’s Dance on the Blacktop, 2016’s Tired of Tomorrow, and 2014’s Guilty of Everything, that there wasn’t much more to explore as a band.

“At the time of Dismal’s release, Palermo thought the band might’ve reached its natural conclusion, but then life happened and ‘the feeling of wanting to do it resurfaced,’.”

As of now, you can preorder your copy of a short history of decay over at the band’s Bandcamp page.
