PRELIMINARY LINEUP FOR UNITED BLOOD FEST READS LIKE A WHO’S WHO OF CONTEMPORARY HARDCORE

Earlier this week, the organizers behind Virginia’s annual United Blood festival announced a preliminary list of the bands scheduled to perform at its fourth installment, which runs once again at Alleykatz in Richmond from March 26th through the 27th. For lovers of hardcore young and old, the lineup should seem damn impressive.

In no apparent order: Madball / Dry Spell / Backtrack / True Colors / Donnybrook / Mother of Mercy / Rise and Fall / Blacklisted / Cruel Hand / Naysayer / Harms Way / Steel Nation / Alpha and Omega / Maximum Penalty / Bracewar

And apparently that’s only half of the full lineup, which will likely be announced sometime next week. The latest albums from Blacklisted and Rise And Fall both made the cut in my Best Albums of 2009 post, and Madball are ideal headliners for either the Friday or Saturday night. The fest has a strong showing of some of today’s most prominent peformaersas well as some promising up-and-coming acts, though I’m keeping my fingers crossed that a few more classic acts (Agnostic Front? 7 Seconds?) end up on the bill. Cro-Mags played last year’s fest (and they killed at the show I caught the other week at New York’s Santos Party House), but I doubt anyone would bemoan a reprise appearance.

A limited amount of $50 weekend passes can be purchased online (visit the United Blood site for details) or in person with cash at Vinyl Conflict in Richmond. Single day tickets are not yet available. Last year’s fest sold out, FYI.

    Gary,

I love that you’ve been posting a shitload of hardcore postings…especially NYHC….it’s a nice switch up to read about madball when all I hear about sometimes is Guns N Roses

Agreed- was just coming to post this. Nice work bro!

    • Tonberry

This. I’m actually surprised that there hasn’t been a slew of “THIS IS METALSUCKS NOT HARDCORESUCKS GTFO” fare, though.

This is exactly what I wanted to post, good job Gary!

is every new york hardcore band required by statute to have one grotesque fat fuck member? sure seems that way

  • Alex_P

Cro-Mags are among the best hardcore bands I’ve ever seen. I don’t even like hardcore as much as you do, but they fucking slay.

Also, that picture looks weird. Is that guy on the left really that fat/muscular? He looks ready to explode.

    • djabthrash

He is huge and the picture emphasizes that as well.

Back to the topic : MADBALL rules !!!

    • Chainsaw Majini

Haha, Madball crack me up. The only thing missing is a skinhead in a basketball jersey.

  • bucketochicken

Hoooooooooly shit. That fat guy from Madball has the T-Rexiest arems ever.

  • Spike

Is it just me or does the guy on the right look like a really really really huge midget?

    • cougar party

I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure the guy on the left is Donnie Wahlberg.

  • wtfhax

Hardcore gets a big ‘meh’ from me. Glad you guys like it though.

I’d like to see that big fella on the right vs. Dino in a baby eating contest

    • http://thenumberoftheblog.wordpress.com/ groverXIII

      My money’s still on Dino… he’s like a baby-eating machine.

I wonder what instrument that fat dude plays.

It’d be cool if he was the bass player.

He looks like a bass player.

    • djabthrash

      he is the bass player
