RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU’RE EXCITED FOR THE NEW ION DISSONANCE ALBUM

ion dissonanceDespite the urging of many a trusted metalhead over the past few years I never really sat down with Ion Dissonance‘s music until a few days ago. As is so often the case I was immediately taken aback by what I’d been missing out on.

OMG SUPER BLOGGER NEILSTEIN DOESN’T KNOW ABOUT EVERY BAND EVER!!! CALL THE METAL POLICE!!! PWNED!!!

So yeah it’s like this band was pretty much made for me, and they’re not of the proggy-weird ilk that I usually blog about. Ion Dissonance are way more immediately identifiable as “Axl music,” which is to say they’re incredibly brutal. As with any Neilstein entry there’s a good amount of technicality in the mix, but it comes in the form of original wave deathcore-ish mind-fuckery ala The Red Chord or fellow Canadians Despised Icon. There are also trace elements of Gojira / Morbid Angel and Meshuggah in the mix, and even some Dillinger-style dissonance (hardee har!) making these guys an all around win.

Noisecreep tells us Ion Dissonance just finished up recording a new album, the follow-up to 2007′s Minus the Herd. Expect it to be released sometime this summer on…. on…. could it be that this band is without a record label? Crikey, someone get on top of that.

If you’ve never listened to Minus The Herd from front to back in one sitting, you’re missing out. It’s short. I’ll wait.

I dont think anyone expects you to know every band ever but Ion Dissonance, really? How did you drop the ball on that one?

P.S. Ion Dissonance has actually been around longer than Despised Icon.

  • Jesus

Hopefully its more like Solace and less deathcore

I really liked “Breathing Is Irrelevant” and “Minus the Herd.” “Solace” had it’s moments, but it seemed to be more of a “hey, look how we can control chaos” album than actual music. Needless to say, I’m stoked on their new record.

Been a fan since Breathing is Irrelevant. I like all of their albums, but I think that Minus the Herd is where they hit their niche as far what style they should focus more on. Its less chaos and more just in your face metal. It does have a deathcore vibe to it, but they are definitely more mature when it comes to songwriting than their peers are though. Plus they are for the most part much more proficient with their instruments than a lot of the deathcore stuff that is around now. I do miss the old singer though.

I agree, Minus The Heard brings atmosphere to the chaos…

  • kmfcm

    Skip minus the herd completely.
    Piece of shit.

    • SolaceInNothing

Your a peice of shit, Minus The Herd is amazing.

      +1

i saw a video for one song off that album and was completely disappointed…i liked the first two but they were never a top tier band for me…..and that song completely killed the band for me

      • Hey_Yo

minus the heard is an absolute piece of fucking shit. Solace and breathing are some of the best tech ive ever heard. However, minus is something i wished had never happened, skip the breakdown core garbage and check the first 2 albums and thier prior one when they were 357

  • Metrognome

I used to work at a venue in Toronto called The Metal Bar. Ion’s bassist literally stomped a fucking hole in the stage. That’s metal as fuck, right there.

  • SolaceInNothing

What is it impossible for metal blog sites to get a picture of the current ID lineup?

I mean seriously this is the fourth site that still shows the band with Gabe. Now he was a great vocalist and all but he’s not in the fucking band anymore. Its Kevin McCaughey, an all around awesome dude.

  • Ziltoid

Shitty deathcore is still shitty as usual.

      agreed

    • SolaceInNothing

I think i figured out what your problem is…

    /hand raised

This, new Dillinger, new Protest the Hero, and new After the Burial, all in one year? I’m stoked.

*pulls up in squad car* you called?

MTH is just as technical as the first two albums. If you dont like the “breakdowns” in MTH then how the fuck cauld you like the “breakdowns” in Solace or Breathing?????

The only differences are a.) They adopted more straight forward elements to the writing which includes buildup and atmosphere. Which shows that they can actually write songs and not just chaos. This is what is known in the buisness as “progression” I know real secret industry term. and b.) good production values . . .

Yes, I think that what throws a lot of people off is how well MTH was recorded compared to the first two. Elements are mixed differently through out the songs to add emphasis which isn’t done on the first two so much because they were of lesser production value.

I am sure that Cursed is going to blow MTH out of the water, but don’t be mistaken, Minus The Herd IS the pinnacle of Ion Dissonances writing for now…
