THE METALLICATS ARE PUSSIES, REGRET SOME KIND OF MONSTER

MetalSucks Uber-Tipster Hetal Bhatt sent us a link to this  article from Rolling Stone:

It’s been six years since the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster hit theaters, but the band is still sharing its reactions to the movie, which chronicled the band’s bitter in-fighting and visits to a therapist while working on St. Anger. Their impressions? Not good. “Every time I see Noel Gallagher he quotes lines from that movie back to me,” Ulrich told Australia’s Herald Sun. “That thing has taken on a life of its own. I had to live that shit for three fucking years! The whole thing was a mindfuck. I am aware a lot of other musicians seem to have lived a lot of those moments. They weren’t necessarily stupid enough to film them like we were and share them with the rest of the world.”

It’s funny that Lars Ulrich is bitching about people making fun of Metallica for coming off as a bunch of spoiled rockstars, since he cites Noel Gallagher as his point of reference — in other words, Ulrich is upset about being perceived as a rockstar, but can’t help but remind us all that he’s a rockstar. He has no point of reference for being a normal person with normal friends anymore.

It’s also disappointing to hear him wuss out like this. Some Kind of Monster is one of the only things Metallica have done in the 21st century that I actually respect. I don’t agree with the film’s view point that Metallica are still great artistes, and directors Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky* are basically lying at the end, when they imply that St. Anger was accepted with arms wide open by fans the world over. But I appreciate how freakin’ HONEST the rest of the movie is: these guys come across like real assholes. In other words, as a Metallica fan, I loathe Some Kind of Monster, but as a fan of human foibles, I love Some Kind of Monster.

But now Lars is upset because Noel Gallagher teases him? Jesus. Just because you’re the same height as a kindergartener doesn’t mean you need to behave like one, y’know, Lars?

*And it’s almost hard to blame them. If the end of the story was, “…and they continued to act like morons,” the movie would probably be less successful.
