Jeff Loomis Will “Speak of Nothing”

Maybe I’m just imagining it, but it seems like it’s been a minute since a label double-dipped a fairly new album, re-releasing a “deluxe” edition with bonus tracks just a year or so after the original came out. I remember Roadrunner were doing it left and right circa ’05ish. Maybe it’s still common practice and it’s only happening now with albums I don’t care about and are therefore not on my radar?

The reason I’m rambling about this is because Century will release a “Tour Edition” of Jeff Loomis’ Plains of Oblivion — one of my favorite albums of 2012 — on April 16, to coincide with his upcoming trek with Soilwork, Blackguard, and Wretched. It will contain three bonus tracks, including “A Liar’s Chain,” which we first heard back in October, and “Speak of Nothing,” which is now streaming here. Both songs feature vocals by Joe Nurre and fall under the category of, in Loomis’ own words, “death metal type stuff.”

Both songs are also awesome, and I really hope for the sake of fans who already own Plains — myself included — that they and the third bonus track are made available for individual purchase, because having to re-buy something you just bought a year ago is, well, sucky. If for some reason you don’t already own Plains of Oblivion, though, well — April 16 would be a terrific day to remedy that.

Check out “Speak of Nothing” here. Dates for the aforementioned tour with Soilwork are below. As a bonus, Dirk Verbeuren will be playing drums for Soilwork and Loomis on the last eleven dates of the tour… so anyone going after April 26 is in for an extra-special treat. You lucky fuckers.
