MISERY INDEX: EXCLUSIVE WORLD TOUR VIDEO DIARY, PART 3 – EUROPEAN FESTIVALS

Thursday, August 20th, 2009 at 1:00pm by MetalSucks

If you haven’t been following our series of exclusive tour diaries by Misery Index, you’re missing out (check out Part 1 and Part 2). Put together by the band themselves, they’re insightful and hilarious looks into the band’s behind-the-scenes lives (and not just in the usual get-wasted-and-barf-all-over-each-other way). The third and final installment, below, covers their journey through the European festival circuit. Hopefully we’ll be able to get more of these from Misery Index in the future — thanks guys! Catch ‘em on tour for the rest of August throughout Europe.

Alright, people. I feel like fucking death. I just wanna go lie down and hopefully never wake up. Let’s get this over with:

We’ll be at Summer Slaughter on Sunday. If any of you spot us and want to buy us a drink, please, for the love of all things holy, don’t.

MISERY INDEX: EXCLUSIVE WORLD TOUR VIDEO DIARY, PART 2 – JAPAN

Monday, July 13th, 2009 at 1:56pm by MetalSucks

Maryland death-thrashers Misery Index (whose excellent 2008 album Traitors our own Axl Rosenberg gave a four-out-of-five-horns rating and our own David Bee Roth ranked his #8 album of 2008) are currently touring the world, and they’ve been so kind as to produce an exclusive 3-part video blog series for MetalSucks documenting their lives on the road and the crazy shenanigans that ensue. Part 1 took a look at the band’s road experiences and bird-watching hobby on their European tour, while Part 2 goes behind the scenes of their Japanese tour; automated toilets, Japanese beer, bullet trains, the band’s visit to a temple in Kyoto, and a funny little Japanese chick in a Burzum t-shirt. You know, the usual. Part 3 is coming soon!

MISERY INDEX: EXCLUSIVE WORLD TOUR VIDEO DIARY, PART 1

Monday, June 29th, 2009 at 1:00pm by Vince Neilstein

When the lads of Maryland death-thrashers Misery Index (whose excellent 2008 album Traitors our own Axl Rosenberg gave a four-out-of-five-horns rating and our own David Bee Roth ranked his #8 album of 2008) approached us about doing a video blog series for their current world tour, we were a bit skeptical; lots of bands pitch us all like, “hey doodz we’ll do a tour blog it’ll be awesome booze bitches drugs metal rawwwr yeaahhhh!” and then never deliver. But Misery Index have delivered in spades with Part 1 of the 3 Part series, a hilarious look into the band’s life on the European leg of their tour including band introductions, backstage shenanigans, live footage, and, um… bird-watching. The best is when bassist/vocalist Jason Netherton convinces a bunch of dudes in European metal bands — unaware of the awesomeness that is our site — to say “Metal Sucks!!!” to the camera. Stay tuned for Part 2: Japan, coming soon to a douchie metal site near you.

THE FACELESS TRANSITION FROM ONE MIND BLOWING TOUR TO ANOTHER

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 at 11:10am by Axl Rosenberg

facelessarsis

One of the many stories we didn’t actually get to discuss this week is the news that The Faceless are the latest metal act to be banned from The Disney-owned House Of Blues in Anaheim, California. Oddly enough, their tour mates in Meshuggah and Cynic were not banned; what makes The Faceless any more (or less) offensive than Meshuggah or Cynic is kinda beyond me (Also beyond me: why people keep booking metal shows at this club that has repeatedly acknowledged it wants nothing to do with metal. But I digress.).

But the dudes in The Faceless can take consolation in these two facts:

  1. Walt Disney was a Nazi cock sucker.
  2. Immediately following the conclusion of their jizz inducing tour with Meshuggah and Cynic, they will HEADLINE their own jizz inducing tour with Arsis, Misery Index and The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravanganza.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MISERY INDEX’S JASON NETHERTON

Thursday, December 18th, 2008 at 11:30am by David Bee Roth

Being blessed by a slew of Vancouver metal shows recently, I set off last week to see a spectacular example at the conspicuously indie venue Richards on Richards. Black Dahlia Murder managed to attract the biggest mosh and gave an energetic performance even sans their lead guitarist and his parts. Soilent Green might have stolen the show managing to sound tight as bike shorts while playing their complex arrangements and with studly beast Ben Falgoust delivering his vicious stage presence with the occasional slice of Louisiana charm. However, I had already picked favorites before I even got in the door that night and I was more than excited to be able to see Misery Index dish it out in the opening slot and let me assure you that they fucking slayed. It all has to do with a little album called Traitors that turned me into an instant fan this year, front to back, riff to riff. After introducing myself to this brutal Baltimore quintet around their self-operated merch table, I stole away bassist/vocalist Jason Netherton backstage to the door of the venue’s massive walk-in beer fridge for a few questions about the making of the new album, being a political band and more.

Above, check out the band’s new, David Brodsky-directed video for the title track from Traitors; then, after the jump, read the complete transcript of our interview.

FOUR INCREDAMAZING METAL SHOWS IN NYC TONIGHT!

Monday, September 29th, 2008 at 4:21pm by Vince Neilstein

Amorphis, Samael, Virgin BlackIt always happens this way; you wait and wait and wait for a band you love to come around, and when they finally do they’re playing at the same time as that other band you’ve waited and waited and waited for. So it is tonight in NYC, FOUR-fold. So if you’ve still got an open card for the evening, check out at least one of these awesome shows, and if you’re ambitious and have deep pockets lined with cab money, check out all four! It’s a great night to be a metal fan in NYC, with headliners Wetnurse, Origin, Amorphis and Kataklysm sitting atop 4 totally well-rounded and deep tour bills.

MISERY INDEX CARE ABOUT THE ECONOMY

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 at 3:15pm by Axl Rosenberg

It’s funny to think that “misery index” is actually an economic term – you wouldn’t expect the dudes in Misery Index to spend a whole lotta time thinking about unemployment and inflation rates.

But based on the cover art for and title of the band’s new album, Traitors, it does seem pretty clear that these Maryland metallers have politics on the brain, and if the horribly fucked-up wreckage that is the current U.S. economy isn’t of the utmost relevance to the current political situation, than nothing is.

ORIGIN HIT THE ROAD!

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 at 8:57am by MetalSucks

This past Spring Vince and Axl had the privilege of meeting Topeka, KS-based technical death metallers Origin at the video shoot for their new song “Finite.” Antithesis, the album from whence it came, is a hell of a record (read Axl’s 4 out of 5 horns review here), and in between takes at the video shoot guitarist Paul Ryan told us a bit about its creation. So it’s with extreme honor that we present to you a MetalSucks co-sponsored Origin tour, featuring Misery Index and Fuck the Facts on select dates. The tour is currently winding its way through Canada and will hit a handful of Eastern and Midwestern cities through early October. Full list of remaining dates are after the jump.

And while you’re at it, check out some live footage at UVTV of Origin performing earlier this year in Rochester, NY.
